The Graduate School Newark Fall 2009 Calendar
GRADUATE FACULTY AND STUDENTS: Please note the following dates and information pertinent to the Fall 2009 term.
August 1: Last day for filing for diploma applications for October degree date.
September 1:
Fall term begins (NJIT - starting day for the fall 2009 term is August 31). Accurate rosters are
available on the web. (Instructors: ask your Program Director). Registration for Matriculation
Continued is subject to late fees as of September 1.
Approval of the Dean of the Graduate School is required for credit overload (17 credits or
more, including teaching assistantships).
September 1 - 9: Students have the first eight (8) calendar days to change their registration via the Web Registration or the Rutgers Touchtone Registration System (RTTRS) with no extra fees or penalty
Adding and Dropping via WEB/RTTRS: September 1 - 8, 2009
Adding only via WEB/RTTRS: September 9, 2009
September 1 - October 13: A complete withdrawal from the University from September 1, 2009 through the sixth week of the term is subject to a partial refund. See the Graduate School-Newark catalog for General Refund Policy.
September 9, 2009: Last day to register for non-degree courses.
September 9, 2009: Students may drop courses without academic penalty but will receive a "W" grade. After November 24, 2009, it is no longer possible to drop a course.
To add a class after the add period, special permission is needed from the program director and when necessary, the permission and signature of the Dean of the Graduate School-Newark. The effective date of a change of registration is the date on which the Change of Course form with appropriate signatures is filed with the Registrar.
October 1: Last day for filing candidacy applications for both master's and doctoral students for the October degree date, and for submitting completed theses and dissertations.
November 1: Last day for filing diploma applications for January degree date.
November 9 - 13: Advisement and registration period for the spring 2010 term for continuing students.
November 24: Last day to withdraw from school (all courses) with a "W". No refund.
November 26 - 29: Thanksgiving recess.
November 30: Classes resume.
December 11: Last day of classes.
December 16: Fall term examinations begin.
December 23: Fall term examinations end. Change of incomplete grades for fall 2008 term must be filed with the dean's office by this date.
December 24: Winter recess begins.
January 4, 2010: Last day for filing candidacy applications for both master's and doctoral students for January degree date, and for submitting completed theses and dissertations.
January 19, 2010: Spring 2010 term begins.
